With this special edition, we wish to highlight our recent events and draw your attention to upcoming deadlines for individual funding programmes. We also present to you another DAAD alumnus who did his research in Germany and is now making a difference in his home country.

Alumni Spotlight- Dr. Issahaku
My vision for higher Education is to position Colleges of Education as the leading centers for the training of professionally competent teachers, grounded in up-to-date pedagogy, research skills, critical thinking ability and moral values.
I pursued my PhD in Germany at the University of Kiel from October 2015 to January 2019. My research interest is in Climate-smart agriculture, Food Security, Education, Sustainable agriculture and Food Systems. My PhD focused on the Contribution of of Climate-Smart Agriculture and Sustainable Land Management to farm performance, Food and Nutrition Security and poverty reduction in Ghana. |

Application for Research Grants open! |
The Research Grants offers the opportunity to complete doctoral programmes in Germany. There are options for short-term research grants, one year research grants, bi-nationally supervised research stays and the option to complete the entire doctoral programme in Germany. |
Development Related Postgraduate Scholarship (EPOS) |
The scholarships offer foreign graduates from developing and newly industrialised countries from all disciplines and with at least two years' professional experience the chance to take a postgraduate or Master's degree at a state or state-recognised German university, and in exceptional cases to take a doctoral degree, and to obtain a university qualification (Master's/PhD) in Germany. |

Call for Georg Forster Research Award |
The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation presents up to six Georg Forster Research Awards each year to internationally outstanding researchers from developing and transition countries in recognition of their academic record to date. The research award was named for renowned German ethnologist Georg Forster (1754–1794) and is funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development. Are you a scientist and well connected with colleagues in Germany?
The closing date for this year's nomination round is 31 October 2023. |

Falling Walls Lab GhanaRecycling plastic bottles into T-shirts
For 2023, the winning spot went to Maltiti Mohammed, a Ghanain student from the University for Development Studies in Tamale. He convinced the jury with his idea; Breaking the Wall of Plastic Pollution. Maltiti’s solution to one of Ghana’s biggest pollutants of our water bodies is to start a Clothing and accessories company which relies solely on recycled plastics. |

Opening of Ghana-NRW University Alliance OfficeThe Ghana-NRW University Alliance Office was opened at the Goethe Institut premises here in Accra on Tuesday 18th July, 2023. In her opening remarks, Dr. Susanne Preuschoff, (Director of International Affairs, University of Cologne) mentioned that the office was established in less than one year. She added that the China NRW University Alliance served as an example to build on. The office is set up to build more connections and bridges between Ghanaian higher educational institutions and their counterparts in the consortium on institutions within the alliance.

PhD Proposal Writing Workshop in TamaleParticipants at the workshop were coached by seasoned researchers and other DAAD and Germany alumni who have successfully completed their research stays in Germany. Prof. Edmond Agyeman from the Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED) facilitated the workshop and training sessions.
Dr. Mustapha Alhassan and Dr. Francis, DAAD Alumni currently in University for Development Studies (UDS) shared their experiences and supported the facilitation of the workshop and training sessions.

Info Café
On the second Wednesday of Evey month, the DAAD Information Centre Accra offers the Info Café to discuss ‘Study and Research Options in Germany’. These monthly events take place in person at the Goethe Institut Library. At these events, we offer an overview of study options, DAAD scholarships as well as answer basic questions on student visa requirements.

The DAAD Information Centre Accra offers monthly introductory sessions on ‘Study and Research Options in Germany’. These monthly events will be held both online and in person.
